People, particularly those with sleep difficulties, utilize a variety of drugs to help them stay awake. One of the most often recommended medications for this purpose is modalert 200 (modafinil). It encourages people with shift work sleep disorder, obstructive sleep apnea, and narcolepsy to stay awake. Amphetamines (e.g., Adderall) and methylphenidate (e.g., Ritalin) are examples of conventional stimulants, as are armodafinil (Waklert), a longer-acting form of modafinil. These medicines increase alertness and decrease fatigue, but because of the possibility of adverse effects, abuse, and combinations with other medications or diseases, they should only be taken under a doctor’s supervision.
